Help Wanted: VCU Advertising

VCU is looking for two full-time, undergraduate ad faculty with hire dates in August 09.

One position for someone to teach strategic aspects of the business (account management, account planning, media planning). It is a tenure-track position. The position is listed with a minimum requirement of a master’s with professional experience. I think that as long as the candidate has strong professional experience and shows a deep interest in doing scholarship (research or professional work), the degree requirement isn’t a deal breaker.

The other position is for creative courses. The need is to focus on the writing courses. This is a long-term collateral position. This means that there isn’t a scholarship aspect to the job; the workload is all teaching. The minimum requirement for this position is a bachelor’s degree with extensive professional experience.

We are looking for passionate professors looking to help us build the strongest ad program in the country. We think of advertising as any brand communication that comes in contact with the consumer. We strive for work based on smart insights, strong thinking, fresh creativity, high responsibility, and an impact that creates results for the client.
Check out the job postings for the strategic faculty position and for the creative faculty position.

  1. I am very interested and curious about the first position in VCU’s help wanted advertisement: the position “to teach the creative aspects of the business.”

I have EXTREMELY relevant and appropriate background. I have over 20 years of agency experience – the first half in Account Management and the second in Strategy and Planning. I have worked across a diverse range of categories and clients.

At FCB I was very involved with developing and executing training. This included everything from FCB’s Advanced Advertising course to globally rolling out FCB’s Mind & Mood consumer insight tool.

And, I have had several people work for me who graduated from VCU’s Advertising program so I have first hand experience with the graduates.

I am right now in the process of re-evaluating my career and will be making significant changes in the next couple of months. I have always talked about teaching and perhaps now is the perfect time, and VCU the perfect place? Please contact me.

    Sincerely, Ted Klauber

  2. How would one teach creativity?

  3. Scott, much obliged for the kind comments, they kind of made my saturday. I’m slowly following your advice, I’m trying to remove the logo from my posts from now on, the image should be king. I’m trying to walk the line between making something coherent about lifesavers and going off into my own world of strangeness, which would be way easier then you’d think. I’m trying to get my hands on a video camera to tape somethings, if you have any suggestions or know where I can rent them, I’m all ears. Again thanks for all your input!

    • Edit: apparently I’m very bad at getting back to the front page of a blog while reading it. So I apologize for that. I forgot to address, in my last comment, the photography on my blog, the vast majority of it is original. All of the Macro photography is mine, it’s not just a hobby, it’s also my job! Unless it’s obviously someone elses’, like a painting of a man, you can probably tell it isn’t mine because it has a nice, evenly lit backdrop(like the picture of the black man).
